Education at its best!
Savion is 9 years old and lives in his own little world. He attends St. Francis Children’s Daycare, Inc. for afterschool care. When we first met him in August of 2011 he stood apart and didn’t know how to interact with his peers. At snack time Savion would flip through dictionary pages, moving his hands constantly, as he ignored everyone. Savion is autistic. Today, with the help of the teachers at St. Francis Children’s Daycare, Inc. he has friends and they make sure he is a part of the group. Now when snack time comes, he’s the first one at the table and when he smiles the whole world smiles with him!
St. Francis Children’s Daycare, Inc. has been providing educational and family support services for the past 23 years to low income families and their children regardless, of their abilities. Our mission is to help families become self sufficient by providing a safe place for children while parents work, go to school or search for employment. We provide full day and afterschool care for ages 6 weeks through 12 years. Unlike most child care centers, our rates are on a sliding fee scale for those parents who have applied for Title XX funding. SFCD promotes early childhood literacy because we know that this is the foundation for success. We offer Family Support Services on-site to guarantee that families get connected to beneficial programs and services offered in Hillsborough County. We are NAEYC accredited (National Association for the Education of Young Children) to ensure the quality of education and care provided in our programs.
Don’t all children deserve a chance? Please help us continue our mission to support children and families right here in our community! OUR PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY:
The agency has several long-term goals to assist us with measuring our success, resources to implement our strategies and impact/effort on social change to achieve our goals and expectations. We strive to involve the whole family in a child’s education by offering parent education and on site family support programs and services.
St. Francis is developmentally appropriate in its approach to early childhood care and education. We allow for individual growth and development. Our program provides each child with the opportunity to firmly attach to a warm, responsive, appropriate, and consistent adult during the early years of their life. Continuous care will give a child a secure base for exploration of the world around him/her, comfort in times of stress, and a source of stimulation and joy. We believe that children learn best by active exploration of their learning environment through play, which is the foundation for academic learning and discoveries. According to Jean Piaget’s theory, learning is established through play and exposure to a variety of experiences. We believe that a home away from home should provide a warm, positive, understanding, safe, secure, and loving, place for a child to play and learn. Children are individuals with unique and special needs. The services and programs we offer make the agency different because we not only care for the limbs of the family tree but we provide support for the trunk.
